Weekend Reading, June 21

Weekend Reading

Here are my top 3 history articles this week:

1) Voice and Hammer: Harry Belafonte’s Unfinished Fight by Jeff Sharlett via Virginia Quarterly Review.  I am a huge fan of reading, music, and history: so this longform article is perfect.

2) Ending 50 Years of Silence About Mississippi’s Freedom Summer by Ellen Ann Fentress via The Atlantic.  An interesting look at coping with a painful historical past.

3) Jane Austen’s Collection of Critical Feedback From Her (Sometimes Harsh) Friends and Family by Rebecca Onion via The Vault.  I always think the difference between a good person and a great person is their ability to solicit and listen to feedback.  My opinion of Jane Austen just got that much higher.

Bonus) Alright, it’s not quite reading, but Videos from the Pathé World Cup Archives is still interesting! Via the British Pathé Blog.
