Fun Fact of the Day: Churchill Painted As A Hobby

This photo was taken by Life Magazine photographer Frank Scherschel in 1949. Winston Churchill is painting a landscape scene while on vacation in Aix-en-Provence, France. And all the while still smoking a trademark cigar.

Churchill was the British Prime Minister twice: once during WWII from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955.

For a fun slideshow of Churchill in his ‘inter-leader’ period, click on this link to Life/Time’s website: Winston Churchill at Leisure: LIFE Portraits.  It has photos of his downtime during the years 1945-1950.  It’s a neat view of Churchill the person instead of Churchill the leader!
