Children Living in the Ward, Toronto, 1911

From the City of Toronto Archives: Four children living in the ‘Ward’, a section of Toronto bounded by the streets College, Queen, Yonge, and University. The ward was basically a run-down, poor area of the city that housed mostly newly arrived Canadian immigrants – to visit the place today you’d never know.

I think the best description of the neighbourhood is from the words someone wrote in pencil on the bottom of the photo: “Slum kids, 1911?
