Fun Fact of the Day: A Bear Helped Haul Ammunition in the Battle of Monte Cassino

Wojtek is a Syrian Brown Bear that was adopted by soldiers in the Polish 22nd Artillery Supply Company during World War Two. They found him as a baby in Iran in 1943 and the mascot was enlisted into the Polish army in order to bring him back to Europe on a British supply ship from Egypt to Italy. There, in 1944, he apparently helped haul ammunition during the Battle of Monte Cassino.

Some cool photos [here] and a short bio [here].
